Aubrey's Story...

Our DANCESCAPE community is coming together to support one of our dancers, Aubrey Davis, during an unimaginable time.

 

6-year-old Aubrey, and her mom Chelsea Edwards were recently involved in a devastating accident involving a gas can explosion on Monday, June 8th. Aubrey has suffered extremely severe burns and remains in critical condition at Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, where she is fighting for her life every single day. Chelsea also sustained serious burns and is recovering while supporting her daughter through this hardship. In the midst of everything, Chelsea also welcomed a new baby girl into the world a few days after the incident.

Update (7/2/26)...

In the days following the accident, Aubrey underwent multiple surgical procedures, including debridement to remove damaged tissue and several skin grafts, particularly to her legs, with additional areas on her back, arms, and other parts of her body closely monitored. Some areas have shown encouraging signs of healing and good blood flow, while other areas remain under evaluation for possible additional grafting.

Her recovery in the PICU has included periods of fever, infection, ventilator dependence, sedation adjustments, and challenges with dialysis and clotting issues. She has also experienced episodes of agitation and respiratory distress, requiring medical intervention from her care team. Despite this, there have also been meaningful moments where Aubrey has responded to commands...squeezing hands, giving thumbs up, and showing signs of awareness.

More recently, Aubrey underwent a trach-related procedure due to ongoing breathing complications. During an urgent intervention to address a mucus blockage and replace the trach, she unfortunately went into cardiac arrest and required immediate CPR before her heartbeat was restored. She was without oxygen for an extended period of time. Her medical team has shared that she suffered a significant lack of oxygen and is now in an extremely critical condition with severe brain damage. She is being closely monitored over the next few days for brain swelling, and additional neurological testing will be completed once she is stable enough to better understand the extent of her condition.

This is a very serious and uncertain time. Aubrey remains under intensive care at Mott's, and her family continues to remain right by her side, holding onto hope, love, and faith as they navigate each moment.
